A black 3D-printed spool carrier with open triangle-lattice flanges, a lime green hub ring and rim stripe and a bar with cut-through lettering, standing on its rim on a light wooden workbench with a small spool of orange filament locked inside it, other filament spools and a 3D printer softly out of focus behind.

01About

Mini 250 g spools are too small for the AMS rollers. This carrier is a full-size spool, 199 mm across and 67 mm wide, that the mini spool locks inside, so it goes straight into an AMS slot without winding the filament onto another spool.

Three ribs on Half A sit in the mini spool's three big flange windows, so the mini spool turns with the carrier and the AMS can feed and rewind it. Half B pushes through the centre hole and twists about 30 degrees until it clicks: nothing to glue or screw.

Made for SUNLU-style 250 g mini spools: 140 mm across, 36 mm wide, a 53 mm centre hole and three large windows in each flange. Other mini spools may not fit, so check yours first. It is for roller AMS units (AMS, AMS 2 Pro, AMS HT), not an AMS Lite spindle.

It comes as a two-colour Bambu Studio project for a P2S with an AMS, and as STL for one colour. The license lets you sell the prints you make.

  1. Open the 3MF in Bambu Studio

Open it as a project (File, then Open Project). The printer, plate and settings are already saved, so there's nothing to set up. Printing on another brand? Use the STL files with the settings below.

  2. Load your filament

    You need two colors:

    • BodyBlack
    • Rim stripe and hub ring (3MF only)Lime green
  3. Print

Print Half A and Half B, each on its own plate, flat outer face down as supplied. No supports and nothing to clean up.

Each half fills its own 256 x 256 mm plate: print both plates. The two-colour 3MF needs an AMS; the lime is only in the first three layers, so the swaps are few (3 h 29 min, 107 g for the pair). Keep the scale at 100%: the lock and the ribs depend on it.

Printing on another printer or slicer? See the settings

The 3MF project has these settings saved for a Bambu Lab P2S with an AMS. Using the STL on another printer? These are the settings it was made with.

03What to print

2 parts. One Half A and one Half B make one carrier:

PartHow manyColor
BlackMini-Spool-Carrier-Half-A1 partHalf A, with the three drive ribs
BlackMini-Spool-Carrier-Half-B1 partHalf B, twists to lock

Print one of each half, not two of the same. The 3MF has both halves on two plates; pick the 3MF or the STLs, not both.

04Loading a mini spool

  1. Lay down Half A

Place Half A outer face down, its hub and three ribs pointing up.

  2. Drop in the mini spool

Line one big window of the mini spool up with the small notch on A's rim and lower it so all three ribs sit in its three windows.

  3. Push in Half B

Push Half B through the centre hole, starting with the lettering bars about 60 degrees apart.

  4. Twist to lock

Hold A still and turn B about 30 degrees counterclockwise past the click, until the lettering bars cross at a right angle.

  5. Into the AMS

Check nothing rattles, then put the carrier in an AMS slot and feed the filament as usual.

To unload, secure the filament end, turn B clockwise past the click and pull it out. Hold the hubs or rims, not the lattice, and never force the lock with tools. Keep PLA away from hot dryers.

05Selling your prints

Every download comes with a license that lets you sell the physical prints you make. The full terms are in LICENSE.txt inside the ZIP.

You can

  • Print it for yourself, family and friends, and as gifts
  • Sell physical prints, with no quantity limit or royalty
  • Change the files for your own printing, and sell prints of those too
  • Use your own photos of your prints to sell them

You can't

  • Share, upload, sell or give away the files, or remixes of them
  • Pass the files on with a print you sell
  • Claim the design as yours, or imply 3MF Labs endorses your shop

Want a friend to have the files? Send them this page. It's free for them too. Read the full license
