01About

The frame, roof and carry handle of our Modular Lantern, about 30 cm tall with the handle up. Print it once, then slide in a set of panels for each season: four scenes that glow when a battery LED light is inside.

The panels slide down grooves in the frame, so changing the scenes takes a minute. The roof slides on and locks with a press-and-slide latch, with no screws, clips or glue, and the round carry handle prints already attached to the roof.

This is the frame only: the panel sets are sold separately, and every set fits, starting with our Christmas lantern panels. You can also add the frame to any panel set when you buy it. Both parts come as Bambu Studio projects set up for a P2S and as STL files for any slicer, and the license lets you sell the prints you make.

  • Fits every set of 3MF Labs lantern panels
  • Slide-lock roof: no screws, clips or glue
  • Carry handle prints in place, already attached
  • Two prints: the frame and the roof
  • About 136 × 141 × 296 mm with the handle up
  • Sell the prints you make
  • Lantern
  • Light-up
  • Swappable panels
  • Holiday decor
  1. Open the 3MF in Bambu Studio

Open it as a project (File, then Open Project). The printer, plate and settings are already saved, so there's nothing to set up. Printing on another brand? Use the STL files with the settings below.

  2. Load your filament

    One color:

    • Frame and roofBlack, or any color you like
  3. Print

Print everything on the list below, then put it together.

Keep the scale at 100%: scaling changes the hinge, the panel grooves and the lock. Don't split or rearrange the roof and handle: they print together, already joined, and the roof STL holds two separate shells on purpose.

Printing on another printer or slicer? See the settings

The 3MF projects have all of this saved for a Bambu Lab P2S. Using the STLs on another printer? These are the settings they were made with.

03What to print

2 prints. One lantern frame:

The panels are sold separately: any set of our lantern panels slides in. Use the 3MF projects or the STLs, not both.

04Putting it together

  1. Print the parts

Print the frame and the roof once each. Keep the supplied orientations, and don't split or rearrange the roof and handle: they print together, already joined.

  2. Clean them up

Let everything cool. Remove the supports from the frame channels, the roof hooks, the release tab and around the handle, then clear any strings.

  3. Free the handle

Support the hinge ears and gently rock the handle until it swings. It's already attached, so there's no axle or clip to fit. Don't force a stuck joint.

  4. Add the panels and a light

Slide four panels down the frame grooves with the raised artwork facing out, and put a battery-powered LED light inside. LED only, never a candle.

  5. Lock the roof

Face the frame's latch pocket and the roof's thumb pad toward you. Set the roof on the rails about 12 mm right of center, press the thumb pad down, slide the roof left to center and let go. Check that all four hooks are engaged.

To open it, press the thumb pad down, slide the roof 12 mm right and lift. This is a decorative indoor lantern for battery LED lights: no candles, flames or hot bulbs. Support the base when you carry it.

05Selling your prints

Every download comes with a license that lets you sell the physical prints you make. The full terms are in LICENSE.txt inside the ZIP.

You can

  • Print it for yourself, family and friends, and as gifts

  • Change the files for your own printing, and sell prints of those too

You can't

  • Share, upload, sell or give away the files, or remixes of them
  • Pass the files on with a print you sell
  • Claim the design as yours, or imply 3MF Labs endorses your shop
