01About

A chess set with a dark sense of humor. The king is a crowned skeleton seated on a tall throne, the queen a skull-faced banshee in a spiked crown and flowing robe, the bishops are plague doctors with wide hats, beaked masks and canes, the knights are horse skulls with ridged manes, the rooks are brick crypt towers with a coffin-shaped door, and the pawns are little hooded ghouls.

Every piece stands on a round base carved with runes, so the set reads as one family on the board.

Print the Full Side plate twice, once in a light color and once in a dark one (ivory and black look great), for all 32 pieces. Each piece is also included on its own, for spares or smaller batches.

Every piece is a single-color print: no AMS, no color changes, nothing to put together and no glue or weights. The king stands 85 mm tall and the pawns 42 mm, made for boards with 50 to 57 mm squares.

Every file comes as a Bambu Studio project for a P2S and as STL. The license lets you sell the sets you make.

  1. Open the 3MF in Bambu Studio

Open it as a project (File, then Open Project). The printer, plate and settings are already saved, so there's nothing to set up. Printing on another brand? Use the STL files with the settings below.

  2. Load your filament

    You need two colors:

    • Light sideIvory
    • Dark sideBlack
  3. Print

Print the Full Side plate once in each color. Every piece comes off the plate whole, with nothing to put together.

One side takes about 8 h 41 min and 170 g, so the whole set is about 17.4 hours and 340 g. Keep the scale at 100%: smaller crowns and details get too delicate.

The 3MF projects have these settings saved for a Bambu Lab P2S. Using the STLs on another printer? These are the settings they were made with.

Print the Full Side plate twice in two contrasting colors. The single-piece files are for spares or smaller batches. Each file comes as a 3MF project and as an STL. Chessboard not included.

04Finishing the pieces

  1. Print both sides

Print 07-Full-Side once in ivory and once in black, bases flat on the plate as supplied, with tree supports on.

  2. Let it cool

Let the plate and pieces cool, then flex the plate gently. Hold each piece by its base or body, never by its crown, beak or mane.

  3. Remove the supports

Ease the tree supports away in small sections, sideways, supporting the detail next to them: under the throne arms and hands, the robes, the bishop's brim and beak, the horse's muzzle and mane, and the tower's ledges.

  4. Clean the bases

Brush off loose strings and check that every base sits flat. Self-adhesive felt dots underneath are optional and protect your board.

  5. Set up the board

A light square on each player's right, queens on their own color. The hooded figures are the pawns and the towers are the rooks.

Fine details can break if dropped or bent. Small parts: keep away from young children and pets.
