01About

A fall spinner about 7.5 cm (3 in) across and 1 cm thick: three rounded maple leaves with engraved veins around a low centre cap with a raised crosshatch, like the cap of an acorn.

The leaves spin around the captive centre hub on a printed bearing: it comes off the plate already joined, so there is no metal bearing to buy and nothing to put together. Pinch the hub, flick a leaf and it spins.

It prints in one color with no supports. A plate of four spinners is included too, for fall party favors, classroom treats or the Thanksgiving kids' table.

It comes as a Bambu Studio project for a P2S and as STL. The license lets you sell the spinners you make.

  1. Open the 3MF in Bambu Studio

Open it as a project (File, then Open Project). The printer, plate and settings are already saved, so there's nothing to set up. Printing on another brand? Use the STL files with the settings below.

  2. Load your filament

    One color:

    • SpinnerPumpkin orange
  3. Print

Print it flat as supplied at 100% scale, with supports off.

Keep the scale at 100% (changing the size changes the bearing gap), print it flat exactly as supplied and keep the hub and leaves where they are. Too much first-layer squish can close the gap, so calibrate your flow first.

Printing on another printer or slicer? See the settings

The 3MF projects have these settings saved for a Bambu Lab P2S. Using the STL on another printer? These are the settings it was made with.

03What to print

1 spinner. Print 01 for one spinner, or 02 for four at once:

PartHow manyColor
One spinner, 73 x 73 x 11 mm01-Autumn-Leaf-Fidget-Spinner1 spinnerPumpkin orange
Four spinners on one plate02-Autumn-Leaf-Fidget-Spinner-4-Pack4 spinnersPumpkin orange

About 1 h 3 min and 29 g for one spinner, 3 h 50 min and 116 g for four. Pick one format, the 3MF or the STL, not both.

04Getting it spinning

  1. Let it cool

Let the plate and the print cool fully, then flex the plate gently and lift the hub and leaves off together. Don't pull on the leaf tips.

  2. Free the bearing

Hold the round hub and twist the leaves gently a few turns each way until they turn freely.

  3. Spin

Pinch the centre hub between thumb and finger and flick a leaf. Keep your fingers on the hub, away from the spinning leaves.

No oil or glue is needed. If it sticks, check that supports were off and the scale was 100%; don't pry the hub out or force it with tools. Keep PLA away from heat, and keep small or broken parts away from young children and pets.
