A 3D-printed rocket launch slider keychain lying on a dark wooden desk at night: a navy plate with white stars, a yellow crescent moon, a white lattice launch tower and pad, and a little white and red rocket in the slot down the middle, with a silver key ring through its loop, a toy telescope, pencils and a star map nearby.

01About

A flat night-sky keychain about 7.5 cm tall with raised stars, a crescent moon, a lattice launch tower, a launch pad and a loop for a key ring. A little rocket sits in a slot down the middle: push it and it slides up and down, clicking into three stops on the way.

The sliding track prints already trapped inside the plate, with a printed flexing strip that makes the click. The rocket prints next to it, face up, and presses onto the track by hand once. It only fits one way up and is made to stay on. No screws, glue or pins. Add a standard 25 mm split key ring.

The colors are a navy sky and window, white stars, tower, pad and rocket body, red nose and fins, and a yellow moon and flame. The colors sit side by side within layers, so the full-color 3MF needs an AMS with four colors. Without one, the STL prints everything in one color.

It comes as a Bambu Studio project for a P2S and as STL. The license lets you sell the sliders you make.

  • The rocket slides and clicks into three stops
  • The track prints in place, no assembly tools
  • The rocket presses on by hand once, no glue
  • Stars, moon, launch tower and key ring loop

  1. Open the 3MF in Bambu Studio

Open it as a project (File, then Open Project). The printer, plate and settings are already saved, so there's nothing to set up. Printing on another brand? Use the STL files with the settings below.

  2. Load your filament

    You need four colors:

    • Sky plate, track, rocket back and windowNavy
    • Stars, tower, pad and rocket bodyWhite
    • Nose, fins and flame tipRed
    • Moon and flameYellow
  3. Print

Print everything on the list below, then put it together.

The colors sit side by side within layers, so the color 3MF needs an AMS with four colors. Without one, print the STL in one color. Keep the plate and its trapped track in their supplied positions with the rocket beside them, and don't split or auto-arrange the pieces. Keep the scale at 100%: the moving gaps depend on it.

Printing on another printer or slicer? See the settings

The 3MF project has these settings saved for a Bambu Lab P2S with an AMS. Using the STL on another printer? These are the settings it was made with.

03What to print

2 pieces. One slider per file:

PartHow manyColor
Rocket launch slider01-Rocket-Launch-Slider2 piecesNight-sky plate with its trapped track, and the rocket

The file is one whole slider on one plate: the night-sky plate with the sliding track already trapped inside, and the rocket printed beside it. Pick one format, the 3MF or the STL, not both.

04Putting it together

  1. Print the plate

Print the 3MF (four colors with an AMS) or the STL in one color. Keep the supplied positions and the 100% scale.

  2. Lift the pieces

Let the plate cool fully, then flex it gently and lift the launch plate and the rocket off. Leave the track inside the plate.

  3. Press the rocket on

Rest the launch plate flat on a firm surface. Set the rocket over the little peg in the slot, face up with its nose toward the key ring loop: the opening on its back only lines up this way. Press straight down on its middle until it clicks into place.

  4. Free the slider

Hold the plate by its sides and give the rocket a few firm pushes up and down the slot to free the track, then slide it through all three stops.

  5. Add the key ring

Thread a 25 mm split key ring through the loop at the top.

The rocket is meant to stay on: don't pull it off to refit it, and don't pull it away from the front. If it won't slide, brush away loose strings at the back rather than forcing it. Keep small parts and the key ring away from young children and pets, and keep PLA away from heat that could soften it.

05Selling your prints

Every download comes with a license that lets you sell the physical prints you make. The full terms are in LICENSE.txt inside the ZIP.

You can

  • Sell physical prints, with no quantity limit or royalty
  • Change the files for your own printing, and sell prints of those too
  • Use your own photos of your prints to sell them

You can't

  • Share, upload, sell or give away the files, or remixes of them
  • Pass the files on with a print you sell
