01About

A grinning cartoon shark about 15 cm (6 in) long in a red Santa hat with a fluffy white band and a pom-pom flopped beside one eye. Ice blue on top with a white belly and jaw, a big toothy smile, a tall dorsal fin and an upright forked tail. Six sections wiggle side to side; the joints are hidden inside the body, so it looks like one smooth shark.

It prints in place lying flat on its belly, already joined, so there's nothing to put together and no glue. The hat is part of the head. Small supports under the mouth and the hat brim are already set up in the 3MF. It fits a 256 x 256 mm plate.

There are two versions. The full-color project (ice blue, white, red and black) changes color within layers, so it needs an AMS: about 13 h 57 min and 244 g, most of that color-change waste. The one-color version takes about 1 h 59 min and 43 g; a silk blue or blue and white dual-color spool gives it an icy shimmer.

It comes as Bambu Studio projects for a P2S and as STL. The license lets you sell the sharks you make.

  1. Open the 3MF in Bambu Studio

    Open it as a project (File, then Open Project). The printer, plate and settings are already saved, so there's nothing to set up. Printing on another brand? Use the STL files with the settings below.

  2. Load your filament

    You need four colors:

    • Body and finsIce blue
    • Belly, jaw, teeth, eye whites, hat band and pom-pomWhite
    • HatRed
    • PupilsBlack

  3. Print

    Print the shark flat at 100% scale with the supplied supports. It comes off the plate in one piece, already joined.

The colors change within layers, so the full-color 3MF needs an AMS: keep its purge tower. Without an AMS, print the one-color project or the STL in one color. Keep the scale at 100% (shrinking it closes up the joints) and leave every section where it is.

03What to print

Print 01 for the full-color shark or 02 in one color, not both. Pick one format, the 3MF or the STL, not both.

04Getting it moving

  1. Print it

    Print the 3MF or the STL once, flat on its belly and at 100% scale. Watch the first layer under the head and the tail.

  2. Let it cool

    Let the plate cool completely, then flex it gently. Support the shark along its body as you lift it: never lift it by a fin, the hat or the tail.

  3. Remove the supports

    Gently pull off the small supports under the mouth and the hat brim, without pulling on the teeth.

  4. Loosen the joints

    Hold two neighboring sections close to their joint and rock them gently side to side. Work from the head to the tail until every joint moves.

These are sideways hinges, not rubber: the head bends a little and the rear bends farther. Don't pull the sections apart, twist them up and down or force a stuck joint. Keep PLA away from heat, and keep small or broken parts away from young children and pets.
